Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located around Dengxinhundi on the south bank of the Molegeer River (the Moergen River), Chen Barag Banner, Inner Mongolia. It was named by Ning Qisheng et al. in 1959.


Lithology and Thickness

Volcanic Tuff. A suite of volcanic tuff facies. The Lower part consists of flesh-red volcanic brecciated tuff and brecciated crystal tuff intercalated with siliceous tuff; and the Middle and Upper parts are composed of variegated andesite intercalated with dacite and crystal-lithic tuff, with gray-purple basaltic tuffaceous lava at top. Exposed thickness 1731 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unknown: the bottom boundary is unclear. Next older unit is the Hongshuiquan Fm claystone.

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Xiertala Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in Chen Barag Banner, northern Yakeshi City to the farm 16 km from Ergun Left Banner, Inner Mongolia
